Evanescence’s “What You Want” is Exactly What Fans Were Waiting For

“Hello, hello remember me/I’m everything you can’t control/Somewhere beyond the pain there must be a way to believe we can break through…”

After a five year hiatus, Evanescence is finally back with their new single “What You Want”. With their self titled third album coming out in October, Evanescence fans are ecstatic to finally hear new material from the band.

However, some fans think the new single sounds too mainstream and is not the usual dark, haunting melodies that Evanescence is known for.

“What You Want” deals with the concept of conquering fear and actually living the life without being controlled, hence why the lyric “Hello, hello remember me/I’m everything you can’t control” is repeated throughout the song.

Even though there is repetition in the song, the single really brings life to itself with the upbeat tempo that screams out an anthem of freedom. Evanescence fans may be taken back by surprised by how lively this song can be, but will soon join along and chant those same words of liberation.
