After being vacant for over 15 years, The Bijou Theatre has finally opened its doors back to the Bridgeport community.
Located in 227 Fairfield Ave, this 102 year old Theatre had been empty for unknown reasons by the previous owner of the building.
Lynn Julian, Christine Brown, and Kathy Reynolds, the theatre’s new owners, wanted to bring the past back to life by bringing the theater’s energy to Bridgeport.
By breathing life into the theatre, Julian wants people to “feel part of something bigger” and to make “enlighten, engage, creative conversations.”
“This city of Bridgeport is on the verge of human evolution,” said Julian.
The theatre will not only show case independent films and cultural art performances but also a lively convention of film, theatre, art, comedy and music.
The house can seat up to 202, (94 stadiums and 108 cabarets). The stage itself is equipped with lights and sound system. The theatre has an old fashioned concession stand and will feature a full dinner service at the cabaret tables in the near future.
Julian, Brown and Reynolds are also interested in collaborating with University of Bridgeport to arranged UB events to enrich students.
Student discount movie tickets are eight dollars and the owners want the university community to be involved with the theatre.
Being the United State’s oldest still operating movie theatres, Julian, Brown and Reynolds promises theatre goers will be entertained as soon as they walk through the doors.
