Written by Lady Sovereign and Gabriel Olegavich, "9 to 5" became the second hit single off of her first album, Public Warning.
Single wise, it was Sovereign's third hit single over in in the UK. Once it tried hitting up the billboard charts in the U.S., it wasn't really successful at even handing a spot in any of the U.S. charts.
"9 to 5" is about how Lady Sovereign is getting famous as she works her way up to stardom.
"Oh my gosh my days are getting longer/And there's no turning back cause I'm working a 9 to 5/Just to keep my contract did i say that i meant 1:30/I'm no early birdy I'm lazy that's all that i can say/So make sure you heard me/I ain't no early birdy/Won't wake up till 12:30..."
The melody to this song is upbeat and interesting to hear. It goes well with how Sovereign raps her lyrics. Of course with this tongue and cheek song, Sovereign's lyrical skill is all about being humorous as a way to make this song entertaining.
This song gets a rating for three out of five stars. It's a catchy tune with tongue and cheek lyrics that can make some listeners giggle.
