Written by Lady Gaga and RedOne, "Alejandro" is on Gaga's EP album The Fame Monster.
As the third single, "Alejandro" did very well on the charts. It peaked on number one in numerous Billboard charts including Billboard Hot 100 and US Hot Dance Club Songs.
The dance tune "Alejandro is about wanting to get away from each of the lovers, including the main one Alejandro. With Alejandro, Fernando and Roberto trying to keep her on their side, she pushes them away since she wants nothing to do with them anymore.
"Don't call my name/don't call my name/Alejandro/I'm not your babe/I'm not your babe/Fernando/don't wanna kiss/don't want to touch/just smoke my cigarette and hush/don't call my name/don't call my name/Roberto".
One thing that stands out the most is the melody. It's suppose to be this break up song about wanting to separate from the person who you used to love and yet it's sung against this ultra pop dance beat. of course by making "Alejandro" have a dance able tune to it, it helps to attract more listeners.
Within the lyrics, Gaga tends to switch it up. Every other verse she changes from first person to third person perspective about the bad romances between the three. This tactic helps to keep the song interesting. Another song tactic that Gaga ends up using is of course the repeated name of Alejandro. In the chorus she basically keeps on repeating Alejandro's name over and over again. Of course the way she repeats it makes the chorus very catchy to sing and remember.
Vocally, Gaga's strong point is the singing. Her voice keeps the song on a good pace and is a perfect match to the melody. She switches from singing one point to speaking to the next. What lacks a good vocal range Gaga makes it up for in her singing style.
This song gets three and half out of five stars for an interesting melody for a breakup song, good lyrics and good vocals.
