Blogger's Spotlight #2: The MAD Sketchist

When it comes to art, The MAD Sketchist is anything but mad. Read on about this blogger’s journey and her reasons why she chose to create a blog.

Why did you decided to name your blog “The MAD Sketchist”?
Haha! Long Story! To make it short I’ve been in search for a “logo” for quite some time. My last logo compared me to Tim Burton’s Jack Skellington, which was cute but I’m Mary Ann Delgado not a Tim Burton copycat. So that’s how I got the name, MAD is simply Mary Ann Delgado with “Sketchist” following after. Not all of my work is “MAD”, at least not all the time.

Why did you decided to do a blog in the first place?
I decided to start the blog because I needed a place to put a random portfolio of spontaneous work without spending money for a website. I also wanted a place where everyone can find me without having to use Deviant Art. Sort of a way of me evolving and getting my name out there. My boyfriend actually helped me come to that decision which was pretty cool because we had done it together.

What is your blog about?
Basically me on a journey with a pen and paper. My evolution through different experiences to those who are curious. Random thoughts, friendships, relationships, religion ect. My blog is a journal, though I have only been writing for a little time I’ve built up quite a few memories that I can look back on and have “ah” or “damn” moments. I may not gain as much followers as I’d like to or ever be good enough to be known by many but at least I did it. You can’t say I’m not out there. I like my pictures to at least make someone smile or be like “that’s pretty cool”.

What makes your blog different from the others?
It’s about my life. I’m pretty sure there are blogs who are about other people’s lives but this one is about mine. May not be exciting and the work may not be fancy but it’s me. I don’t post crap seeing as how I’m using Tumblr and all. I want my blog to do its job and that’s getting whoever takes a look to get a jest of who I am and what I like to do. My fears, what makes me laugh, if I’m in love, if I’m angry and what made me angry. A person’s life is art no matter how ordinary or glamorous. That’s what makes mine different, it’s not about Sally or Joe, it’s about Mary Ann Delgado finding her way through pictures.

Do you have any advice for people who want to make a blog?
I say you should ask yourself first what you want out of it. A blog can be absolutely anything. It’s a form of self expression, have fun with it. It’s your own personal journal without having to spend 10 – 20 bucks and hiding it under your mattress. And with all these new fangled security buttons and options you can stick on a lock on it or let the entire world know who you are! The world is opening up more and more and now is a good opportunity to let loose and let the blood, guts, and sunshiny rainbows fly right out of your skull so everyone can see.
