This blogger makes sure her blog is interesting enough for her followers to enjoy and reblog what she puts. Even though she doesn't believe that hers are any much different from the others, she manages to add in her own unique twist to her Tumblr blog. Check out this week's spotlight on Alice Approved.
Why did you name your blog "Alice Approved"?
I wanted a title that used my name and was an alliteration.
I tend to like and reblog things that I “approve” or capture my interest and entertain me. Plus, I like to think that if I were a teacher, I would use a stamp that has “Alice Approved” on it to use on passing homework grades. I had a professor who actually has a personalized stamp of approval, so that helped inspire the name.
Why did you decide to do a blog in the first place?
One of my friends showed me tumblr last year when I was crazy over Portal 2. I searched tumblr and found a bunch of blogs dedicated to my favorite video game series.
For a long time, I would just look at all the awesome content and wish I could have them gathered in one place for me to personally enjoy instead of going through other people’s archives. Eventually, I caved in and made a blog so that I could “collect” or “reblog” the images myself.
What is your blog about?
My blog is a personal blog that focuses on my interests, such as favorite shows, games, animals, animations, etc. It’s just me casually reblogging and occasionally text posting about whatever I feel like. Nothing extremely special or out of the ordinary, just simple fun. It's also comprised of things that make me laugh or smile.
What makes your blog different from the others?
This is a tough question, since I’m not that much different from other personal blogs, but everyone has their own little twist.
For me, I suppose I don’t do text post as often as some other blogs do and I occasionally put up some sketches that I’ve done. Also, being from SCAD, I’ll sometimes answer any questions regarding the school as clearly as I can. I’m always open for asks or messages.
Another thing I do is tag all of my posts and reblogs. I really love organizing, so I have a tag page that people can go to if they want to find something specific or just want to look at a specific subject that I reblog and blog about. Plus, I’ll sometimes add crazy or silly messages in my tags, so I like to think that they’re fun easter eggs that people can find.
I mainly focus on things that relate to my interests or whatever make me laugh, such as shows or games. A lot of blogs do that, but I have a little variety rather than just focusing on solely one subject.
Lastly, I keep my blog fairly positive, since I love to make other people smile and happy. I always hope my followers enjoy what I reblog and thank them for putting up with some of my craziness.
Do you have any advice for people who want to make a blog?
Just blog about things that YOU want to blog about. It’s your blog and you can do whatever you want with it.
I personally like to be organized so I tag posts, have a tag page, and make sure my blog format is easy to read. I strongly suggest that you choose font and colors that people can read easily and preferably doesn’t hurt their eyes or yours.
Also, if your blog has pages and not endless scroll, make sure the “next page” button is easy to find. I’ve been on some blogs where I could not find that button for the life of me and it was pretty frustrating. So, have a blog layout that’s easy to navigate through, too.
Some other things would be to just have fun, avoid drama llamas and don’t post things you might regret later.
Lastly, it’s just the internet, people. The internet is full of fantastic people and it’s full of annoying people, but it’s never the end of the world. Don’t take it so seriously. As I’ve said before, have fun!
